Steep slope with high run off - mine dumps
- Erosion of mine dumps not only erodes the surface, possibly making them unstable and dangerous, but contaminates rivers with the run-off.
- With Hyson Cells the slopes can be either vegetated or soilcreted. By sealing the surface the underlying material is allowed to dry out.
- Vegetated slopes should have catchment drains at the head of the slope to minimise surface flows. Terraces, shown here, are another option.
